IB Chemistry Tutors

I am a highly experienced Chemistry teacher and tutor with more than 30 years’ experience, much of it spent as Head of Department in a large mixed secondary school. I studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge and also hold a PGCE in Chemistry from Manchester Metropolitan University. I also teach Chemistry at GCSE and A Level, and have extensive knowledge of the AQA, OCR and Edexcel specifications. For several years, I was part of the AQA A Level practical examination writing team, developing written papers and practical assessment activities. This experience has given me a strong understanding of assessment and the practical demands of advanced Chemistry courses. I also have considerable experience preparing students for other Chemistry assessments, including the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge and the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Chemistry Olympiad. I support pre-university students applying for Chemistry, Medicine and other science-related courses through entrance examination preparation, personal statements and interviews. As a sixth-form tutor, I have helped many students with their UCAS applications and am particularly happy to advise those applying for Medicine or courses requiring science A Levels. I put considerable effort into preparing individual lessons for each student and can set and assess additional work where appropriate. I have built up an extensive bank of teaching and revision resources throughout my career, which I use to help students understand challenging concepts and prepare effectively for examinations. I genuinely love teaching Chemistry and consider it a privilege to work alongside students as they develop the knowledge, confidence and skills needed to achieve their own success.

I tutor all three sciences for students aged 11 to 18. I have extensive experience teaching Chemistry for the International Baccalaureate (IB), as well as GCSE and A Level. I am a firm believer in the benefits of 1-1 tuition. I hold a BSc from the University of Warwick in Physics, a PGCE from the University of Leeds, and an MSc from the University of Oxford in Teaching and Learning.

I am a qualified teacher and have taught in state and independent secondary schools in London. I tutor Biology and Chemistry at GCSE, A level, and IB. I hold a BSc in Biochemistry from Newcastle University, and MRes in Chemical Research from UCL and Birbeck, University of London, a PGCE in Chemistry from KCL, and a PhD in Cardiovascular Biochemistry and Medicine from KCL. After completing my PGCE, I taught in a variety of secondary schools across London, working in both the state and independent sectors. I have since developed extensive experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students at King’s College London, while completing a PhD in Cardiovascular Biochemistry. Alongside my academic work, I remain committed to tutoring Biology and Chemistry at GCSE, A-level and International Baccalaureate level. I also support students preparing for university admissions tests and interviews.

I have worked as a private tutor since 2000 and am a qualified teacher and former Head of Maths and Head of Science at a school in London. I specialise in tutoring Chemistry up to IB. I hold an MSc by Research in Analytical Chemistry and a bachelor’s degree in Applied Chemistry, both awarded by the University of Greenwich. At the time of my studies, the university’s Chemistry department was ranked among the top three in the UK. My teaching philosophy focuses on creating engaging, interactive lessons that respond to each learner’s individual needs. I have developed a range of educational resources and processes, including initial and diagnostic assessments, individual learning plans, schemes of work, self-reviews and reflective evaluations. I regularly revisit learners’ progress to ensure that identified needs are addressed effectively and that appropriate support is provided. This approach has consistently helped learners improve their understanding and achieve higher grades. I am committed to my own professional development and regularly attend educational courses to strengthen and expand my teaching skills. I aim to support all forms of communication, including reading, writing, listening, speaking and non-verbal communication. My lessons include active question-and-answer sessions that encourage learners to express themselves, develop their communication skills and build confidence. I also promote the use of online tools and resources to support independent study and further achievement. Overall, my approach is designed to help learners become more confident, independent and successful in their studies.
