The 13 Plus exams are entrance tests for students seeking to enter Year 9 at independent senior schools. They assess subjects like English, Maths, Science, humanities, and languages. They are usually taken in the summer term of Year 8.

The ISEB Common Pre-Test is a computerised assessment required by some schools as the first stage in the 13 Plus application process. It is usually taken in the autumn term of Year 6 and assesses verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, English, and Maths. Schools use it to sift applicants who they would like to progress onto the next stage of the admissions process.

Preparation should ideally begin 12–18 months before the exams. This allows time to build strong subject knowledge, practice reasoning, and address weaker areas.
