How to Choose the Best Psychology A Level Tutor

Selecting the right tutor is crucial to your success in A Level Psychology. The ideal tutor should not only have strong subject knowledge but also the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly. In our experience, the best Psychology tutors possess the following qualities:

Your tutor should have a solid academic background in Psychology, ideally holding a degree or higher qualification in the subject. This ensures they have the expertise required to guide you through the complexities of the A Level syllabus.

Look for a tutor who has a track record of teaching A Level Psychology. Experienced tutors understand the specific requirements of different exam boards, and they know how to tailor their teaching to help students achieve high grades.

Every student is unique, so your tutor should offer personalised lesson plans that focus on your areas of weakness. A tailored approach ensures that you can progress efficiently and tackle the areas you find most challenging.

A good tutor will help you develop effective exam strategies, including how to manage time during exams, structure essay responses, and tackle different types of questions. Regular practice with past papers and mock exams is essential for building confidence and exam readiness.

Finally, consider the flexibility of your tutor. Tutoring should fit seamlessly into your timetable, whether you’re looking for in-person or online lessons.

By choosing a tutor with these qualities, you can ensure that you receive the support and guidance necessary to excel in your A Level Psychology exams.

Andrew, GCSE, A Level, and IB tutor at Dukes Plus in English, Geography, History, Psychology, RE, and Theory of Knowledge

A Level Psychology Tutor Andrew

I am a qualified teacher with almost 30 years of experience in teaching and school leadership in the UK and internationally. I teach Psychology at AS and A Level, alongside a range of humanities and English subjects, and I have extensive experience preparing students for public examinations across multiple exam boards.

As well as tutoring and classroom teaching, I have held senior leadership roles including Head of English, Headmaster, Executive Director and Director of Professional Development. These positions have given me considerable experience in curriculum design, assessment and effective teaching practice.

I hold Qualified Teacher Status and a PGCE in Secondary Education from Homerton College, University of Cambridge, as well as a BA (Hons) in Geography and International Politics from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.

My approach is supportive, structured and tailored to the individual student. I believe learners make the strongest progress when they feel encouraged to think independently while being challenged to meet high academic expectations. Whether a student is preparing for an examination or rebuilding confidence in a subject, I focus on developing secure understanding rather than simply teaching to the test.

I particularly enjoy working with students who have lost confidence in a subject. My lessons are calm, engaging and well organised, and I break complex material into manageable ideas while maintaining high expectations. I aim to help students become more independent learners and develop the resilience, curiosity and academic skills that will support them beyond their examinations.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the wonderful tutors and the incredibly helpful support team. Thanks to their dedication and guidance, my son was able to achieve an A* grade. We truly appreciate all of their hard work and would highly recommend their services to anyone seeking excellent academic support.”

What Is Included in the A Level Psychology Syllabus?

A Level Psychology covers a diverse range of topics designed to give students a deep understanding of human behaviour and mental processes.

One core topic is social influence, which examines how individuals’ behaviour is shaped by those around them. This focuses on conformity, obedience, and social change. You’ll study famous experiments like Asch’s and Milgram’s.

In memory, you’ll explore how short-term and long-term memory work. Students review models like the multi-store model and factors that influence recall, such as interference and retrieval cues.

The attachment section focuses on the bond between children and caregivers. This includes Bowlby’s theory of attachment and the effects of early relationships on later life. Biopsychology explores the brain and nervous system, examining how neuroplasticity and neurotransmitters influence behaviour.

Psychopathology introduces mental health conditions such as depression and OCD, along with their treatments, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Finally, research methods equip students with essential skills for conducting and evaluating psychological research. You’ll cover experimental designs, data collection, and ethical considerations.
