What are the different university admissions tests?

UK university admissions tests are specialised assessments used by various universities across the United Kingdom to evaluate the aptitude, skills, and knowledge of applicants for specific courses or subject areas. The LNAT (Law National Admissions Test) is a standardised test used by certain UK universities to admit students into their law programmes. Universities like Oxford, UCL, and King’s College London require LNAT, making it an essential component of the admissions process for aspiring law students.

The Sixth Term Examination Papers (STEP) are a Maths assessment taken at the end of Year 13 for students who have a conditional offer to study Maths at the University of Cambridge. It is also sometimes required by the University of Warwick. STEP is widely considered to be the most challenging university entrance Maths assessment, as it is more demanding than the TMUA or MAT.

The Test of Academic Reasoning for Admissions (TARA) is an admissions test used by UCL and Oxford for entry to various courses, particularly in the social sciences. Assessing critical thinking and reasoning, it is somewhat similar to the TSA (Thinking Skills Assessment), which was formerly used by Oxford.
