Course Modules

Develop five essential skills for university-level study, using fascinating questions from medicine and the sciences to put your learning into practice.

Learn to make the most of lectures

University lectures move quickly. Discover how to identify important arguments, recognise supporting evidence, and capture key information as you listen. You’ll practise structured note-taking and learn to turn your notes into useful resources for revision and research.

Turn your ideas into compelling scientific arguments

Good academic writing begins with clear thinking. Learn to organise information, develop a convincing argument, and support your conclusions with evidence. Using scientific topics, you’ll practise expressing complex findings accurately and developing the writing skills needed for further study.

Make your research impossible to ignore

Learn how to turn detailed scientific research into a clear, engaging presentation. Explore effective speaking techniques, visual communication, and academic poster design. You’ll also practise answering questions and explaining your reasoning to an audience.

Follow the evidence, wherever it leads

How do scientists distinguish convincing research from unreliable claims? Investigate how evidence is evaluated, assumptions are challenged, and alternative explanations are compared. You’ll explore important concepts such as correlation and causation while developing a more analytical approach to scientific information.

Think like a researcher

Every scientific discovery begins with a question. Learn how to develop focused research questions, find reliable sources, and organise your findings. You’ll practise evaluating information and drawing conclusions that stand up to scrutiny, building towards your group research project.
