Why Book Our Science Summer Schools?

All our science summer schools are taught by highly experienced teachers – typically they are graduates in science from top universities, and some are professional scientists. Lectures from eminent guest speakers provide further opportunities for learning. With 15-25 hours of teaching per week, students receive a tour-de-force education in a range of scientific disciplines.

There’s plenty of opportunity to put your theoretical study into practice on our science summer schools. Engaging seminars, interactive workshops, and both group and solo projects provide the chance to apply what you’ve learned. Whether it’s designing and implementing a lab experiment or performing spatter analysis at a simulated crime scene, you’ll get lots of hands-on experience and put your skills to the test.

Our students always rave about the amazing programme of social activities we provide in the evenings. From quizzes to film nights or karaoke, our social programme is the perfect chance to relax after a day’s studying and develop lifelong friendships.

Our summer schools offer an unparalleled opportunity to explore a wide range of scientific disciplines. Depending on which science summer school you select, you could be working on artificial intelligence, computer programming, forensic science, or engineering – to say nothing of covering the fundamentals of biology, chemistry, and physics. Whatever your scientific interests, we have a summer school to match.

Our Students Love Us

“The Young Forensic Scientist programme taught me a lot about the different branches of forensic science. There were case studies given to apply the knowledge we’ve learnt. This course was very helpful, interesting, and informative.”

What’s Included in Our Summer Schools?

Students have 15-25 hours of lessons per week with expert tutors, depending on the programme. Teaching takes place in a mixture of seminars, workshops, classroom lessons, and supervised projects.

Throughout our science summer schools, students have regular opportunities to strengthen their English language skills – improving their confidence in speaking, writing, and presenting.

Almost all of our summer schools include exciting and enriching excursions to some of the UK’s top landmarks and cultural attractions. Excursions vary by programme and campus, but may include a tour of Oxford, visits to London, or a day out at Thorpe Park. All students are supervised during their excursions.

The exception is The Young Forensic Scientist Summer Experience, which includes site visits to professional locations but not cultural excursions.

Our summer schools include a packed programme of social activities and access to the outstanding facilities on their campus. From indoor sports to football, karaoke to film nights, our social programme is the perfect chance to relax after a day’s work

Accommodation and meals are included within the course fee on all our science summer schools except for The Young Forensic Scientist Summer Experience, where it is an optional extra.

Students stay in comfortable, modern bedrooms – most children share with a few others in bright and spacious dormitories, while on some campuses older children may have their own room.

Each of our summer schools has a different curriculum. However, we have summer schools covering all major fields of science, including biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, computer science, and forensic science.

The ages eligible for our programmes varies from one summer school to another. Overall, we can accommodate students aged 11-18, depending on the specific summer school you select.

We strongly believe in hands-on learning. Depending on which science summer school you book, students may:

  • Conduct lab experiments under expert supervision
  • Design a small-scale renewable energy system
  • Perform fingerprint analysis in a forensic science lab
  • Demonstrate a hydroponic growing system

In addition to these practicals and projects, students may take part in classroom learning, attend guest lectures from visiting scientists, and do lab work.

Each of our science summer schools is held at a different location:
