Surpass expectations in Engineering

Do You Need a Tutor for Engineering?

Engineering is a fascinating but highly complex subject. A tutor can be invaluable if you are:

  • Preparing for competitive university applications in Engineering
  • Looking to improve your performance in a challenging undergraduate course
  • Aiming to deepen your understanding of complex Engineering topics
  • Aspiring to gain practical skills for projects and lab work
  • Seeking to build confidence for academic and professional success in Engineering

Engineering Degree Entry Requirements

Engineering is one of the most competitive degrees to apply for, with most universities setting high entry requirements. Universities usually expect strong grades in key subjects like Mathematics and Physics at A Level, with some courses also requiring Chemistry, depending on the specific branch of Engineering you’re applying for. If you’re studying the International Baccalaureate (IB), securing a grade 6 or 7 at Higher Level in these subjects is usually essential.

Many top universities, like Oxford, Cambridge or Imperial College London, require minimum grades of A*A*A or A*AA at A Level. In the IB, you may need a total score of 40+. Some universities also require admissions tests to assess students’ skills. These may include the Engineering and Science Admissions Assessment (ESAT) for applicants to Cambridge and Imperial, or the Physics Admissions Test (PAT) for Oxford.

Your personal statement is a crucial part of the application, allowing you to highlight your interest in Engineering. Universities look for evidence of your practical commitment and academic interest in the discipline, shown through internships, work experience, or personal Engineering projects.

Oxbridge applicants can also expect an interview to further assess problem-solving skills, subject knowledge, and motivation. Preparing through mock interviews and practising typical questions can be highly beneficial.

Our Engineering tutors can help you meet these entry requirements, offering support with subject tutoring, admissions test prep, and interview coaching. We have more than 20 years’ experience preparing students for applications to Oxbridge and other top UK universities, as well as Ivy League colleges and leading universities around the world
