Scroll / Drag This course provides an in-depth exploration of the SDGs, focusing on their significance, implementation strategies, and potential impact on global sustainability. Daily topics are investigated in three phases: Phase 1 = ‘Thinking Locally’: students look to Folkestone and the English coast; discovering local developments and sustainability initiatives, and simulating getting involved through fieldwork, projects and practical tasks Phase 2 = ‘Thinking Globally’: students look to the wider world; exploring where it may heading, and what big organisations are doing to make a positive impact Phase 3 = ‘Acting, Not Just Thinking’: students look to themselves, their immediate environment and their lives, and do a series of hands-on projects focused on how they themselves can make a positive impact. This includes creating and undertaking a sustainability survey on Earlscliffe and making suggestions on how we can improve. You will take part in a whole range of exciting activities connected to sustainable development, including kayaking, paddle-boarding, cooking, sustainable farming, coastal expeditions, and cycle tours. Students will develop skills through a series of skills-based workshops, lectures, independent learning, and study tours. During the course, students will get to enhance their academic writing skills by constructing an academic essay on a topic of the student’s choice to put into practice the skills they have developed. By signing up to Sustainable Futures, you are not only learning about urgent and critical topics connected to sustainable development, but are also enhancing skills which are going to be the cornerstone of your successes throughout higher education. Sustainable Futures would appeal to anyone interested in majoring in sustainability, learning about environmental management, analysing environmental systems, and research methods, and would be of interest to students who are curious about preparing careers that guide organisations and businesses in building more environmentally friendly practices. “In his first call home, my child said “Mom, I want to stay longer, and you can already subscribe for next year”.
