The Big Solutions Challenge — Innovating for Global Impact

The Big Solutions Challenge invites students to confront major global issues — from climate change and global health to peacebuilding and the role of technology. Working in teams, you’ll explore what meaningful solutions could look like in the decades ahead, combining research, creativity, and strategic thinking.

At the showcase, Future Entrepreneurs take the stage as founders pitching global start-ups. Each team presents a product or service designed to address a pressing challenge, unveiling prototypes or brand materials and persuading the audience of their idea’s potential impact. The format mirrors high-stakes pitching: concise, confident, and convincing.

Clean Resources Start-Up

In the first week, students develop a business idea that expands access to clean resources. Projects may focus on safe drinking water, affordable renewable energy, or waste reduction technologies. Each group prepares a prototype or visual concept and delivers a clear pitch explaining how their solution addresses a real global need.

Communication or Education Start-Up

The second project challenges students to create a start-up focused on communication or education. Ideas might include tools that connect isolated communities, low-cost learning platforms, or services that support dialogue and peacebuilding. The emphasis is on entrepreneurship with purpose — designing solutions that improve lives and strengthen communities on a global scale.

Foundations of Entrepreneurship
Explore the key principles of entrepreneurship and learn how successful businesses are built from the ground up. You’ll discover how to identify opportunities, generate creative ideas, and turn them into practical business concepts.

Business Planning and Strategy
Gain hands-on experience in planning, decision-making, and managing resources through interactive case studies and business simulations. You’ll learn how strategy shapes success and how to adapt plans in response to changing circumstances.

Communication and Pitching
Develop your communication and presentation skills by learning how to craft and deliver persuasive business pitches. You’ll practise explaining ideas clearly, presenting to an audience with confidence, and responding effectively to feedback.

Collaboration and Problem-Solving
Work with your peers to tackle business challenges that mirror real-world scenarios. These projects will strengthen your teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving abilities — essential skills for any aspiring entrepreneur.

Module 1: Building Business Foundations
Discover how businesses are created and what drives their growth. You’ll learn to identify opportunities, assess whether an idea is viable, and plan the early stages of launching a venture. Through guided activities, you’ll develop skills in goal-setting, strategic thinking, and entrepreneurial planning.

Module 2: Markets and Money
Explore the essentials of how markets operate and how businesses connect with customers. You’ll investigate pricing strategies, budgeting, and resource management while analysing real business examples. Interactive tasks will help you interpret market trends, make informed decisions, and think like a business strategist.

Module 3: Pitch and Present
Focus on the art of communication and persuasion as you prepare and deliver a professional business pitch. Working in teams, you’ll refine your ideas, craft a compelling message, and present your concept with confidence. These sessions build your presentation, collaboration, and time management skills — all essential for aspiring entrepreneurs.
