The Future City 2050 Festival — Imagining Tomorrow

The Future City 2050 Festival invites students to envision a city of the future and bring it vividly to life. Throughout the week, groups collaborate across subjects to design how the city looks, functions, and grows — from its architecture and transport systems to the science, art, and culture that shape daily life.

The week culminates in a festival where the entire school comes together — lights rise, exhibits open, and performances fill the stage. Entrepreneurs present their innovations on stage as if pitching to investors. Each group identifies the problem they are solving, explains their proposed solution, and persuades the audience of its value — demonstrating clear communication, strategic thinking, and entrepreneurial confidence.

Invent the Product of the Future

In the first week, students design a product or service that improves daily life in the city of 2050. Ideas may relate to housing, healthcare, communication, or waste management. Each group explains why their idea matters, how it would function, and who benefits.

Design Tomorrow’s Urban Transport

The second project focuses on movement within the future city. Students create a transport innovation — perhaps a shared personal travel system, a streamlined method for moving goods, or infrastructure to reduce congestion. The project must show how the concept works and how it improves life in a dense urban environment.

Over the course of this two-week Future Entrepreneurs programme, you will:

  • Learn how to turn ideas into successful businesses by developing, branding, and pitching your own product.
  • Study key leadership traits from historical and modern leaders, and apply them to your own leadership style.
  • Improve public speaking, presentation, and teamwork skills through group projects and hands-on activities.
  • Gain practical experience with the Young Apprentice Time to Shine, where you’ll invent, brand, and pitch a product.

Introduction to Entrepreneurship

  • In this module, you’ll learn what it means to be an entrepreneur. You’ll explore how ideas are turned into successful businesses, discover what makes a great business idea, and start thinking about your own business concepts. Through creative activities and team projects, you’ll begin to understand the basics of starting and running a business.

Basics of Marketing and Branding

  • This module introduces you to the exciting world of marketing and branding. You’ll learn how businesses attract customers, create strong brands, and communicate their message effectively. Through interactive exercises, you’ll get to practice designing your own marketing campaigns and understanding what makes a brand stand out.

Understanding Money and Finance

  • In the final module, you’ll explore the basics of finance. You’ll learn about managing money, making smart financial decisions, and understanding how businesses earn and spend money. Through simple, fun activities, you’ll start to see how finance plays a crucial role in every business and why it’s important for future leaders to understand it.
