Time to Shine
Apply your medical knowledge and creativity through dynamic group projects that culminate in the end-of-week Time to Shine Ceremony. It’s your opportunity to showcase what you’ve learned, share innovative ideas with your peers, and build confidence in presenting medical topics and research.

Fieldwork
Take your learning beyond the classroom and into the field. Guided by your tutor, you’ll visit locations connected to medicine and healthcare, carry out research, and test ideas through practical investigation. These sessions help you connect medical theory to clinical and community contexts, while developing observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills essential for future study in medicine.

The Global Summit

At Oxford College, the Global Summit unfolds over two weeks of debate, strategy, and collaboration. In the first week, students take their seat at the summit table as delegates responding to urgent global challenges. In the second week, the focus shifts to the Interdisciplinary Grand Challenge, where students from different subjects work together on problems too complex for one discipline alone.

At the summit showcase, Faculty of Medicine students take the role of health advisers reporting to world leaders. Their task is to explain the crisis clearly, present a viable solution, and show how it could be implemented.

Develop a Global Health Response Plan
In the first week, students prepare a response plan for a global health emergency. This might involve designing a vaccination rollout, ensuring access to clean water, or coordinating the distribution of medical supplies. The project requires students to explain both the scientific principles behind their strategy and the practical steps needed to put it into action.

Design a Unified Health Strategy
In the second week, medical students join teams with their peers from Business, Law, and Global Leadership in the Interdisciplinary Grand Challenge. Their role is to provide scientific and clinical insight — outlining medical risks, discussing prevention or treatment options, and showing how health systems can function under pressure. Together, the team presents a coordinated solution at the Oxford Global Solutions Forum, demonstrating clear reasoning and shared leadership.

Industry Experience — See Medicine in Practice

Gain first-hand insight into the medical profession through our industry experience sessions. Students visit a local hospital or research facility to observe healthcare teams in action, gaining an understanding of clinical environments, professional roles, and the real challenges of delivering care. This experience brings classroom learning to life and offers a genuine look at medical practice.

Guest Speaker Masterclasses

Throughout the programme, students hear from guest speakers working at the forefront of medicine. These professionals share their career paths, discuss current developments in healthcare and research, and offer practical advice for those considering a future in the field. It’s an opportunity to learn directly from experts and ask the questions that matter.

Build a foundation in medical science
Study anatomy, physiology, and pathology to understand how the human body functions and how illness develops, connecting core concepts to future clinical learning.

Examine the principles of medical ethics
Explore the responsibilities of healthcare professionals, with a focus on consent, confidentiality, and ethical decision-making in patient care.

Practise essential clinical skills
Take part in workshops and simulations covering patient history, examination techniques, and basic emergency care to begin developing safe, effective clinical practice.

Work collaboratively in clinical settings
Join peers in case discussions and group projects that mirror the teamwork and communication at the heart of modern healthcare.

Module 1: Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology
This module offers an engaging introduction to the structure and function of the human body. You’ll study key biological systems such as the cardiovascular, respiratory, and nervous systems, discovering how they work together to maintain health and balance. Combining interactive lectures with hands-on laboratory activities, the module builds a strong scientific foundation for further exploration of medical studies.

Module 2: Clinical Medicine and Diagnostics
Immerse yourself in the study of clinical medicine, with a strong emphasis on diagnostic methods and patient assessment. You’ll examine how diseases are identified and managed, exploring the use of medical imaging, laboratory testing, and emerging technologies in healthcare.
