Comprehensive Application Support for the Netherlands

By working with Dukes Plus, you’ll receive expert guidance across all stages of the Dutch university application process, including:

We help you navigate the Netherlands’ wide range of institutions – from highly ranked research universities like the University of Amsterdam and Leiden, to selective liberal arts colleges such as University College Utrecht. Our consultants ensure your choices align with your academic interests, strengths, and career ambitions.

Nearly all applications in the Netherlands go through Studielink, the national portal. We guide you step by step through setting up your profile, managing multiple applications, and ensuring everything is submitted correctly and on time.

Some Dutch degrees – including medicine, dentistry, and psychology – use the numerus fixus system, limiting the number of places and adding an extra selection process. We help you prepare for the requirements, whether that’s additional assessments, interviews, or essays.

Many Dutch universities ask for a motivation letter, CV, and sometimes references. We provide one-to-one coaching to help you craft persuasive, authentic documents that highlight your academic potential and motivation to study in the Netherlands.

Most Dutch universities offer a wide range of English-taught programmes, but you’ll still need to demonstrate proficiency through tests like IELTS or TOEFL. For Dutch-taught courses, proof of Dutch proficiency is required. We advise on which tests are necessary and how to prepare.

Application deadlines in the Netherlands vary widely: numerus fixus programmes often close in January, while others extend into May or later. We help you create a clear timeline so that no opportunity is missed.

How do you apply to study in the Netherlands?

Most applications to Dutch universities are made through Studielink, the national application portal, which allows you to apply to multiple programmes at once. Some competitive courses, such as medicine, dentistry, or psychology, use a numerus fixus system with limited places and an additional selection process.

For example, undergraduate applicants to the University of Amsterdam and Leiden University apply via Studielink, while highly selective programmes at institutions such as Delft University of Technology may also require extra documentation or assessments. Universities typically ask for transcripts, proof of English proficiency (such as IELTS or TOEFL), and sometimes a motivation letter or CV.

Deadlines vary – from early January for selective programmes to May or later for others – so careful planning is key if you want to study in the Netherlands. At Dukes Plus, we’re here to help you every step of the way. Book a free consultation to get started.

FAQs

No! One of the main reasons international students choose to study in the Netherlands is the wide availability of English-taught degrees. For Dutch-taught degrees, however, you will need to prove proficiency in Dutch, usually through the NT2 exam.

Most universities ask for academic transcripts, proof of English proficiency (IELTS or TOEFL), and often a motivation letter, CV, or references. Requirements may differ depending on whether you’re applying to a research university, a University College, or a numerus fixus programme.

Studielink is the Netherlands’ national portal for higher education applications. It allows you to apply to multiple universities and programmes in one place. Dukes Plus helps students manage their Studielink accounts, track deadlines, and ensure documents are uploaded correctly.

A numerus fixus programme is one with a set number of places, such as medicine, dentistry, psychology, or international business. These courses often require extra steps like assessments, motivation letters, or interviews. Careful preparation is essential if you want to secure a place.

We have successfully placed students at the University of Amsterdam and University College Utrecht — two of the Netherlands’ most competitive and internationally respected institutions. Our tailored support gives students the best chance of standing out in a selective admissions process.

It’s best to begin at least a year in advance of your intended start date. This ensures you have time to research universities, prepare documents, sit language tests if needed, and meet early deadlines — particularly for numerus fixus programmes, which often close in January.
