The Future City 2050 Festival — Imagining Tomorrow

The Future City 2050 Festival invites students to envision a city of the future and bring it vividly to life. Throughout the week, groups collaborate across subjects to design how the city looks, functions, and grows — from its architecture and transport systems to the science, art, and culture that shape daily life.

The week culminates in a festival where the entire school comes together — lights rise, exhibits open, and performances fill the stage. The atmosphere feels like stepping inside the world you’ve collectively imagined, celebrating creativity, collaboration, and innovation.

Art Exhibition — The Future Skyline

In the first week, students create a piece that imagines the skyline of the future city. This could take the form of a painting, a 3D model, or a collage blending architectural innovation with natural elements. The aim is to show how buildings and public spaces express the values and priorities of the society that constructs them.

Art Exhibition — Culture and Identity

The second project focuses on the people of the city. Students produce work that reflects identity, community, and expression — whether that’s designing future fashion, sculpting a symbol of unity, or building an installation about belonging. The outcome demonstrates how art helps communities see and understand themselves.

Module 1: Foundations of Visual Expression
Build the core skills of your artistic practice by experimenting with line, colour, texture, and form. Work across different media—from drawing and painting to mixed materials—and learn how each choice shapes meaning. This module strengthens technical ability while encouraging you to begin developing your own creative style.

Module 2: Art in Context
Explore how art reflects and challenges the world around us. Through guided discussions and practical responses, study artworks from a range of periods and cultures, considering their social and historical contexts. This module helps you connect creativity to wider human experience, inspiring work with depth and resonance.

Module 3: Creative Project and Collaboration
Bring everything together by producing a piece for the final exhibition. Design, refine, and complete an individual project while also contributing to group displays. This module values process as much as outcome, encouraging experimentation, persistence, and the confidence to share your ideas with others.

Over the course of this programme, you will:

  • Learn the essential principles of art and design, such as composition, colour theory, and perspective
  • Experiment across various artistic mediums and techniques, embracing both traditional and digital forms of expression
  • Develop your personal style and voice in art, transforming your unique ideas into tangible creations
  • Understand the cultural and historical significance of different art forms and their impact on society
  • Compile a portfolio that reflects your artistic journey and showcases your development and individuality as an artist
