The Global Summit

At Oxford College, the Global Summit unfolds over two weeks of debate, strategy, and collaboration. In the first week, students take their seat at the summit table as delegates responding to urgent global challenges. In the second week, the focus shifts to the Interdisciplinary Grand Challenge, where students from different subjects work together on problems too complex for one discipline alone.

Draft a Policy Manifesto
In the first week, students select a pressing issue — climate action, conflict resolution, or international cooperation in technology — and draft a clear, impactful manifesto. Each manifesto proposes three key policies and explains why they matter.

At the summit showcase, students present their proposals as if addressing nations at a critical moment. The tone is formal and persuasive: defining the problem, outlining a vision, and demonstrating leadership through confident, reasoned delivery.

Build International Consensus
In the second week, teams take on issues such as climate migration, pandemics, or AI ethics, combining analysis, innovation, and diplomacy to shape coherent, forward-looking solutions.

Leadership students guide the political framing — showing how agreements can be built across competing interests. The programme culminates in the Oxford Global Solutions Forum, a high-level presentation where teams address the audience as if speaking to world leaders, delivering a united plan with decisiveness, confidence, and collective purpose.

Industry Experience — Step Into Global Leadership

Experience the world of politics and international relations first-hand through our industry experience sessions. Students visit a governmental organisation, think tank, or international NGO, where they can observe how policy is shaped, speak directly with professionals, and gain insight into the practical work of diplomacy, negotiation, and global decision-making. This is an opportunity to see leadership in action at the highest level.

Guest Speaker Masterclasses

The programme features guest lectures from political leaders, diplomats, and economists working on the world stage. They share their experiences, discuss current global challenges, and offer guidance on building a meaningful career in politics, international relations, or economics. Students hear directly from those shaping the conversations that define our future.

Explore Global Systems and Governance
Develop a deep understanding of how international relations, global economics, and diplomacy influence today’s interconnected world. You’ll study how governments, organisations, and global institutions operate, gaining insight into the decision-making processes that shape global policies and societies.

Practise Strategic Leadership
Enhance your leadership and decision-making skills through hands-on simulations, negotiations, and problem-solving challenges. You’ll learn to think critically, act decisively, and lead with confidence in complex, high-pressure situations — just like global leaders do.

Strengthen Cross-Cultural Communication
Work collaboratively with peers from around the world to develop effective communication and negotiation skills. You’ll learn how to navigate cultural differences with empathy and diplomacy, building the ability to connect and collaborate across international and cultural boundaries.

Apply Leadership Skills in Realistic Contexts
Put theory into practice through case studies and group projects that mirror the challenges faced by global leaders today. You’ll research, design, and present innovative solutions to international issues, preparing you to lead with purpose and influence in a global context.

Module 1: Foundations of Political Theory and Governance
Gain an introduction to the core ideas and ideologies that shape political theory and governance. You’ll explore different forms of government, the functions of political institutions, and the influence of ideologies on decision-making. Through case studies and collaborative discussions, you’ll evaluate the strengths and limitations of various political systems and their impact on effective governance and public trust.

Module 2: International Relations and Global Diplomacy
Examine the structures and strategies that define global diplomacy and international cooperation. This module introduces key theories of international relations, the roles of major global organisations, and the balance of power between nations. By analysing real diplomatic negotiations and conflict resolution efforts, you’ll gain insight into how countries navigate challenges such as security, climate change, and humanitarian crises.

Module 3: Economics and Public Policy
Explore how economic principles shape political decisions and public policy around the world. You’ll study topics such as economic growth, fiscal management, and global trade, learning how governments use these tools to address issues like inequality, sustainability, and development. Through applied policy exercises, you’ll discover how theory translates into real-world solutions to complex economic challenges.
