Faculty of Art & Design
Spend two inspiring weeks in Cambridge taking ideas from conception to finished work. This programme is for students who want to experiment, create and collaborate across drawing, painting, sculpture and digital media.
You’ll work with traditional and modern techniques, and take part in a group installation project — designing and building a large-scale piece for the final showcase. Studio work is combined with discussions on art history, theory and how artists respond to the world around them. You’ll place your own work in a wider context and learn to communicate your ideas with confidence.
Learning is interactive and supportive: group critiques, shared feedback and expert guidance help you refine your style and grow creatively. By the end, you’ll gain practical skills, artistic confidence and a deeper understanding of how art shapes culture — valuable for future study in art, architecture, design and beyond.

FAQs
This summer school takes place at Dukes Cambridge, our summer school campus in the heart of Cambridge.
This course is designed for creative students aged 14–17 who want to explore art and design in a university-style environment and develop their artistic skills and portfolio.
Students experiment with different media such as drawing, painting, sculpture and digital design. A key highlight is the group installation project, where students plan, design and create a large-scale artwork for the final exhibition.
No formal experience is required — just enthusiasm and a willingness to experiment. The course supports students at all ability levels, from passionate beginners to those already preparing portfolios.
Both. Students spend time in the studio creating their own work, while also learning about art history, design theory and how artists respond to cultural and social themes.
You’ll develop practical artistic techniques, creative confidence, collaboration skills and the ability to discuss and critique visual work — all valuable for future study in art, architecture or design.
The programme finishes with a final showcase where students present their work, including the group installation. You’ll also receive a certificate to recognise your achievement.
